Marlena Folden, D.V.M.
Veterinarian/Practice Owner

Dr. Folden is really excited to be a part of the new team here at Broadway Animal Hospital. She brings over nine years of veterinary experience to us. After graduating from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008, she practiced emergency and general medicine in the Coachella Valley until 2014. Dr. Folden always wanted to return to Humboldt County to live, work, and play, as she was a previous HSU student athlete. She and her husband had also started raising their family here before leaving for veterinary school. Since 2014, she has worked at various local hospitals until recently, when the opportunity to purchase Broadway Animal Hospital became a dream come true.

“I love veterinary medicine. There are so many opportunities to engage in the aspects I love while I get to play a role in improving people and animal’s lives and bonds. You will find me always making important pet health decisions with you, the best we can.”

Emergency medicine, wellness, feline medicine, dentistry, and dermatology are a few of her veterinary interests. In her spare time, you may find her hanging out at the beach or hiking with her family and three dogs. Other times, she might be curled up with any of her six kitties. And don’t forget the three turtles, Daisy, LT, and Lilly; she has many stories to tell about them.

Jennifer Tavares, V.M.D.
Veterinarian

Dr. Tavares graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a VMD in 2001. She worked in Western Washington after graduation, and recently moved to Humboldt County with her husband, two dogs and three cats. She enjoys working with exotics, as well as doing wildlife medicine. She has particular interests in internal medicine, surgery and pain management.

“Coming to Broadway Animal Hospital gives me the opportunity to utilize skills that are linked to my particular areas of interest in veterinary medicine.”

Dr. Breeann Flores, D.V.M.
Veterinarian

Dr. Flores graduated from Colorado State University in 2009. She worked in Arizona after graduation and recently moved to Humboldt County with her husband, daughter, four dogs, one cat, and tortoises. Her veterinary interests include acupuncture, pain management, some exotics, and dentistry to name a few.

Her hobbies include gardening and exploring the many trails and beaches of the north coast with her husband and daughter.

“Veterinary medicine is a way to improve the quality and lengthen the time we have with our pets.”

Emily Bloom, D.V.M
Veterinarian

Dr. Bloom grew up on the Mendocino Coast, completed her undergraduate degree in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology at UC Davis, and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School. Her interests include internal medicine, surgery, and wellness care. In addition to small animal medicine, she has interests in large animal medicine, specifically equine and dairy cow health. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her two dogs, Trout and Moe, horseback riding, fishing, and backpacking.

Dr. Bloom is very excited to be a part of the Broadway Animal Hospital Team!

Rochelle Kelly
RVT/Medical Services Director

Rochelle started working in the veterinary field when she was 15 years old. She completed her degree in veterinary technology and earned her RVT license in 2007. She received her B.A. from UC Berkeley in Conservation and Resource studies and continued on to the University of Washington, where she earned a Ph.D. in Biology, studying bat ecology on the San Juan Islands.

Rick Hepburn

“Rick has been a RVT since 2016, and a veterinary assistant since 2000 after he retired from the mechanic business. You can find him at the hospital, spending time with his 11-year-old German Shepard Sheba, or practicing one of his many other hobbies like wood working. He makes great wooden display items, and some of them are on display for sale at Broadway! He particularly likes being involved with the animals and the clients and being able to help out as best as he can.”

Shari Moehnke

“I have been in the veterinary field for over twenty-five years. I enjoy supporting the human-animal bond by helping clients and patients receive the care they need. Many times a little moral support can go a long way.”

She received her Bachelor’s in Zoology from Humboldt State in 2018 and aspires to work in a zoo with exotic animals. Linda spends her free time with her husband, dog, and 2 cats and loves exploring the Northern Coast and all it has to offer. Getting to see and help all of the sweet dogs and cats that come through the hospital is, to her, the best part of the job.”

“I love being a part of that journey and making an impact in the lives of other beings. I have always been interested in medicine; it is nice to be in an environment where I get to have more practical experience that lines up with my educational interests every day.”

Kayleigh is getting her degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a minor in music from HSU.
